This was originally purchased from the Georg Jensen gallery in New York City for a rather princely sum in c1958 or c1959. I have couple of original tags that came with the sculpture. Made by Erik Hoglund while leading Boda glassworks....it consists of thick and heavy wrought iron with green, amber, and clear glass colored tiles while the ironwork was wrought at Stromberg Ironworks. It consists of a "Giant Viking Ship" with figures.....measures 69" x 60". This is not for lightweights, as I venture just the ship weighs at least a few hundred pounds itself. There are two sails which are hung on posts, and can actually be turned, that measure 26" x 20" each and weigh 82 pounds by themselves. There are also hand wrought iron figural attachments that hang from the bottom of the sails...a dog and three fish with each sail hanging two. I believe this is also meant to be hung by the posts that also support the sails...and this would look fantastic in the correct venue or home. There is an iron or steel grate that you can rest the Viking Ship on just in case you want to leave it "ashore". There are one or two chips to glass tiles I mention for perfection, but none missing or distressed. A great sculpture by one of the leading emerging modernist artists of his day. His works are rising in value along with the interest in Swedish design and modernism in the past 5 to 10 years in particular. Please excuse my photos as this is hard to display and move properly to photograph....hats off to my wife for the assistance.....I have owned this for a few years now and realize I wont be able to display it for another few years properly since our home is still a work in progress. Since some of Hoglund's chandeliers are selling in the thousands, I think this is a fantastic piece for admiration, investment, and decor.
