This magnificent hand carved walnut and solid,thick,walnut burl carving was the master pattern carved in Italy for a headboard sold by the renowned Hoke Furniture Co. in Thurmont,MD. Stored for many years with some of the rubbery material used to make molds,still attached on the back.Perhaps to incorporate for mirrors,larger headboards,etc. Makes a fabulous wall hanging for attaching a sconce,foyer, above a mantel or buffet. A talented graduate of Harvard Business School opened his custom made furniture company in 1946,Mr. Hoke created only high end pieces with specialty finishes,going to Italy to study for his firm with some of the finest craftsmen on certain pieces such as this. The company gained a global reputation, known for the exquisite carvings on their pieces as well as materials and dealt with the wealthy throughout the US,Europe,Saudi Arabia and Paris. Although Mr. Hoke is no longer alive his company and legacy live on,still creating one of a kind pieces.Several hand written notes,a name,head board on the back as well as the tiny stamp of The Hoke Furniture Co.Excellent condition on the aged patina of the wood only,no finish,measures 45.5H X 38L X 2D. A wire has been added on the back for hanging,yet our restoration dept. will add a wooden strip with keyholes if desired for flush wall hanging for a minimal fee.
