A gorgeous Royal Worcester ivory ware jug finished with an elephant head handle, with the elephant's trunk forming the handle. Ornate gilt work is found around the rims and neck, with gold embossed scroll work above and below the neck and a sponged gilt finish to the lobes and handle. The colorful hand-painted decoration of buttons or coins, flowers and leaves, and a varied abstract design adds a very intriguing touch.

Measuring 8" high at the spout and approx. 4-1/2" wide spout to handle, the base coloring on this jug is a creamy ivory. The jug underside shows the Royal Worcester mark prior to the addition of "Royal Worcester. England" around the bottom outer edge of the circle. The letter "E" dates this jug to 1871.

This lovely piece is in excellent condition, with no nicks, chips, cracks, or repairs. There is an overall crazing that appears to be part of the decoration as it is very uniform in appearance, a treatment enhanced by the gilt sponge work.

A hard to find treasure with a fabulous presence!
