Elegant and Regal Antique Miniature Portrait on Ivory. I think this is a depiction of Marie de' Madici (1573-1642), wife of King Henri IV of France. The whole presentation is very delicate - fine features of the Queen, light pastel coloring and airy lace around a porcelain colored neck. The painting itself is very detailed showing a beautiful, serene face, sparkling jewels, fine lace and an ermine wrap. Very opulent. It is signed "Dennery". The ormolu frame is also exquisite and very unusual. It is composed of cherubim with red stones interspersed between them. The stand of the frame has a shield with writing across it and is topped with a crown. I cannot read the writing in the shield. The back of the frame reads: " The T. Eaton & Co. Limited. EXCELLENT condition with no issues. The ivory wafer is 3" x 2-1/4". The frame is 5" high x 4" wide. Superb! The last picture shows other miniatures currently available in our shop. I would like to thank a Ruby Lane client, Ann Haynes, for her research and hard work in determining the close resemblance of this portrait to the French Queen who has a portrait in the identical dress and coronet.
