Fabulous Antique Cake Tin 1879. This Cake Tin is a real gem. The graphics are outstanding and the color is wonderful. On top of the tin is a scene of "Dorothea (and the emigrants) by Kaulbach". On the front of the tin is "Goethe's 'Lotte' From Kaulbach's Painting." This is enclosed in an embossed frame. On either side of the tin is "Goethe's 'Lili' from Kaulbach's Painting. The back of the tin has no graphics on it. On the front of the tin, in very fine print, it reads: "Somer's Bros. Brooklyn N. Y. Pat. Apr. 29 - 1879." There is a little ceramic knob to open the tin. This is perfectly intact and closes perfectly. EXCELLENT ALL ORIGINAL condition. All of the hardware works perfectly. The handles are intact and strongly mounted. The knob closes tightly. There is some paint chipping in keeping with the great age of the piece. There are no holes in the tin. The graphics are crisp. It is remarkable and a rare find. This piece screams "antique". Lovely! 11-1/2" wide x 9-1/2" high x 12" deep at the bottom and 9-1/2" deep at the top.
