Specializing in Tunbridge Ware and Anglo Indian Pieces
The brilliant Thomas W. Gwilt Mapleson (1814-1852) died young and produced only a few books, but his achievement was remarkable. He is generally regarded as America's finest chromolithographic book designer. The few books we have (Pearls of American Poetry, Lays of the Western World, The Songs and Ballads of Shakespeare, A Hand Book of Heraldry) are all dated in or around 1850, and I have dated this incredibly beautiful print accordingly.
The pictures do not do this print justice. I have listed it here in the Fine Art category. It is double matted and nicely framed, and wonderfully clean and bright -- without discernible flaws of any kind. I have not been able to learn about this particular print through online or other research, but do not believe that it is from any book of Mapleson's. The art work framed by the mats is 14.5" on the vertical dimension and 9.5" on the horizontal dimension. The frame measures 22.5" by 19.5"
