Striking mid-19th century desk standish from Monghyr in Eastern India, made of ebony, turned and carved, with beautiful ivory inlay work. It has divisions for paper and envelopes, and, to the front, a pen stand and pocket watch holder. It is rectangular in shape and slightly angled from front to rear, measuring 13.3" wide by 7.0" deep, and standing 9.4" tall.

The piece is in excellent condition, with all inlay intact. There is evidence of a repair at the very top of the right side piece.
