Antique Hand Carved Wood Prancing Stag Panel

This beautiful oak wood panel has been hand hewn and carved with a stag prancing apparently through a forest, as it has intricately carved vines and flowers surrounding the stag. It is carved from one oak wood panel and the grain and deep honey color patina is gorgeous. It is 12" H. x 8" W. and is 7/8" in thickness. There are leaves and flowers on the four corners that continue around the sides. Solid oak wood is one of the hardest woods to carve, and on the back of the panel, the hand hewn marks are still visible. I believe this might be English, French or German. It is an estate antique carving and certainly 1800's if not earlier. It does have an old repair where the wood had split slightly near the edge, but it's not noticeable. I believe it split with age. Otherwise it's in fine condition, and would be a unique addition to fine carved wood collections.
