REDUCED Beautiful Early Old Brown & White Transferware Platter ~ J.F.W. Foley Potteries

I absolutely adore this great old platter! Made by the J.F.W. Foley Potteries, this is the “Rhine” pattern, as marked on the back. The scene is of boats paddling down a calm stream with trees and castles on land on either side. There is very detailed and fancy scrollwork with flowers on the perimeter of the platter. You can see where the transfer paper came together in places. The best thing about this piece is the patina….over the years, there has developed a mellow, darkened crackling (crazing) over the platter, giving it the look of age that only the passage of time can provide. Remarkably, there are no chips, but one darkened hairline that shows only on the back. A substantial platter, it measures 16 ½” long and 12” wide. This would be a wonderful piece to hang on the wall with a plate hanger, or to actually use on your country harvest table. Simply lovely!
