"Art washes from the soul, the dust of everyday life". Pablo Picasso. Lift your spirits with a beautiful piece of art.
Evin Collis is one of the most outrageous artists I know. His art is full of humour and satire. Please read his artist statement to more fully understand his art.
Artist Statement:
“My artwork is concentrated towards various narratives, storytelling and quirky folklore. The themes of mythology and particular histories intrigue me, therefore, elements of such are worked into my pieces. Storytelling is key, so there is a strong content of allegory present. I am also exploring the curious relationship between the grotesque and humour. Artists such as Fernando Botero, Philip Guston and Robert Crumb along with contemporary graffiti have all had great influences on my mind and craft. I am inspired by the everyday characters I encounter on a day by day basis…people I see on the streets, hear about whether through history or myth, yet always leaving space for the imaginary. Imagination is incredibly important within my work and often coexists with loose historical references and characters.
Evin Collis was born and raised in the prairie city of Winnipeg, Manitoba. He began avidly painting at the age of 16 upon viewing a great collection of prairie artist, Ivan Eyre’s work. Around the same time he and some close friends pioneered a graffiti crew and painted throughout Winnipeg. Collis began pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2006 upon receiving an entrance scholarship to the Ontario College of Art and Design in Toronto. Currently, Collis is in his third year of studies with OCAD and is studying in Florence, Italy for the year. His work has been exhibited in Winnipeg, Ottawa and Toronto, Canada.
