Charming early 20th century bronze sculpture by Thomas Francois Cartier (1879 Marseille - 1943 Paris) who trained under animal sculptor George Gardet.

Cartier worked at the La Ruche, and exhibited at the Salon des Artists Francais and the Salon d’Automne. His talent for revealing the personality of his animal subjects is apparent in this circa 1904 model of a cat playing with a bell.

Dimensions including black variegated marble base are approximately: Height: 10-1/8” tall, Length:9-3/4”, Width: 5-1/2”. Weighs almost 15 pounds. We have applied Liberon paste wax to enhance its worn patina. Tip of bell handle is missing (see photo). Signed in bronze, “T. Cartier”.
