It was William Haden Richardson, his brother Benjamin and Thomas Webb that took over the old Wordsley Flint Glassworks in 1829. By 1836, Thomas Webb had left the partnership to operate his glass works in Amblecote.
What is particularly interesting about this example is the combination of Vaseline glass (that comprises the foliage and stem) pared with the tulip bloom made from milky, white opalescent glass that stripes alternately with clear glass having a faint lavender tint.
The result of all this fervent creativity illustrates why Victorian glass continues to be our guilty pleasure at a time when minimalism maintains its preeminence in haute design.
Excellent condition. No damage or restoration. Stem and leaves fluoresce under blacklight. Approximately 6-1/2” tall.
