This is a rare textbook example of a pierce metal shade and polychrome lamp by the firm of H.E. Rainaud which is featured on Pages 297 and 298 of Albert Revi’s book, “American Art Nouveau Glass”.
Rainaud patented two designs for portable lamps on March 7th, 1922, and this one is Patent # 60,571. The pierced metal shade backed with colored glass (shown on page 298) was patented on June 26, 1923 and is patent # 62,590.
Though Rainaud’s lamp designs which incorporate Neo-Classical elements are not purely Art-Nouveau, they are very popular with collectors looking for affordable alternatives to the leaded glass lamps of Tiffany or Handel. This one is a great find and a rare textbook example of Rainaud’s production.
Condition is good with some wear/loss, (see photos) but polychrome enamel color is still strong. Red Glass panels have probably been repainted sometime before we acquired it several years ago. Although lamp is working and will light, the wiring is older, and therefore we do not guarantee the soundness of the wiring.
Stands approximately 25-1/4” Tall. Width across shade is 18”
