When an old man, Milo attempted to tear in to an oak tree, but the oak tree closed in on Milo, holding him fast while wild beasts devoured him.
Byron’s “Ode to Napoleon Bonaparte” refers to the story of Milo,
“He who of old would rend the oak- Deemed not of the rebound; Chained by the trunk he vainly broke, Alone how looked he round,”
This story is beautifully captured by the artists in this 1971 Sabino Annual plate in opalescent glass. The original medallion engraved by Ursin Jules Vatinelle received the “Grand Prix de Gravure en Medaille in 1819.
Approximately 8-1/4”. No damage or restoration. Comes with original box and pamphlet. Signed “édition limitée 1971 Sabino France”
