The thickly applied enamel gives this winter scene a wonderful textural surface, while the (acid) satin finished glass allows just enough light to penetrate the biscuit jar creating a twilight effect at the sleepy snow-bound hamlet.
A solitary woman trudges up a snowy path past trees with snow laden branches. The church’s snow capped steeple punctuates the darkening sky as it towers above the other snow-blanketed roofs.
The Art Nouveau style metal mounts are possibly pewter, but we have not found any hallmarks to indicate purity or a maker.
No damage or restoration to glass. Glass is unsigned. Slight warping to metal lid along with a 3/8” line to outside edge. These are minor issues that are typical for pewter, and we feel do not significantly affect the aesthetics of this desirable biscuit jar.
Stands approximately 7-1/2” tall x 4-7/8” diameter
