This beautiful pair of candlesticks is from Co-Operative Flint’s Sunset line made between 1925 and 1927. Sunset is a line of heat reactive glass that has a unique quality that sets it apart from other heat sensitive glass such as Alexandrite, Amberina, Burmese and Peachblow. Sunset’s unique characteristic, which is possibly the result of a bone ash additive, allows the glass to change from opaque to transparent and back to opaque again.
Co-Operative Flint’s Sunset glass is relatively scarce is sometimes mistaken for Cambridge “Tomato” glass which Cambridge experimented with between 1927 and 1928.
Stands approximately 9” tall. No damage or restoration. This pair has good color and opaqueness, but one candlestick has a darker red edge (lip) than the other does. This is a common feature of the 9” candlesticks.
