Introduced into the Cambridge Glass Statuesque Line sometime around 1936, the anecdotal account of how this bowl came to be referred to as the “Flying Lady Bowl” is based upon the admiration and affection that townspeople apparently held for a certain female circus performer, an unnamed German trapeze artist. To remember the occasion of her visit, the townspeople proclaimed the bowl the “Flying Lady Bowl” and the name endures today.
According to information available thru the Depression Glass Show and the Cambridge Collectors Club, the Flying Lady bowl has not been reproduced because of the methods used in its manufacture. The body and shell is molded while the single center foot is blown. This complicated production technique has (so far) provided a barrier to the reproduction of this unique bowl, and for now, provides the beautiful flier a safe place to soar.
The oblong shell shaped footed bowl stands approximately 9” tall and is approximately 12-1/2” wide. Condition is excellent. No damage or restoration.
