Made in stunning opalescent glass, it commemorates the marriage in the year 1600 of King Henri IV of France and Marie de Medicis and is after a magnificent medallion by the famous Renaissance portraitist “Guillaume Dupre”. It is suggested that this portrait of the King is among those used by Rubens in his Decoration of the Gallery of Luxembourg for Marie de Medicis (1622-25) Approximately 8-1/4”. As legend has it, he carried a four-year-old heifer through the stadium at Olympia and then ate the entire animal afterwards. Milo led the army of Crotona to conquer Sybaris, a neighboring city.
