We are very pleased to bring you this marvelous piece of Italian art pottery from Ugo Zaccagnini dating to the mid 1930s-1940s. Thanks to the wonderful Walter Del Pellegrino, in whose book "Italian Pottery Marks from Cantagalli to Fornasetti" the marks on this piece can be found, on page 79.

This wood duck stands 8 1/4" tall. The colors are simply gorgeous; orange, green, brown, blue, white, grey. "Woody the Wood Duck" has some chips on the base, the largest being 1/2 of an inch by 3/16 of an inch. Two of the small chips can be seen from the front and back; there is a shallow glaze chip on the right wing as well, as on the topknot. Also a shallow chip under the tail-feathers on the right side.

The importer's mark is the KB/NY and signifies the Koscherak Brothers of New York, who were high-end dealers who supplied to the top department stores and boutiques in America.

Zaccagnini's style was distinctively Art Nouveau; after opening his studio in 1890 in France, he began winning awards and recognition in all the arts and crafts competitions he entered.
