Northwood Custard Glass Spooner, Chrysanthemum Sprig Pattern

These old custard glass pieces have earned the right to be called antiques as they were made around 1900. Their ornate style, durability and modest price made them very popular with Victorian housewives. This nice example in the form of a spooner was made by Northwood in the Chrysanthemum Sprig pattern. It is thick heavy opaque glass, gracefully shaped in the female form and scalloped at foot and mouth. The scallops are embellished with a molded-in pattern of swags, painted in moss green and dusty pink. These frame the chrysanthemums which are decorated with a shiny gold foil overlay. The top pie-crust rim is trimmed in gold.
This measures slightly over 4" in height and slightly under 4" in diameter and is in wonderful condition having only minor paint wear and the manufacturing blips that are common to this glass; several straw marks around the inside top edge. Most of the paint wear is to the top lip and the scallop design, the chrysanthemums are in excellent condition.
The Northwood script mark is faint on the bottom and impossible to capture in a photograph.
