Small Lot of Gaudy Nippon Including Salt & Peppers Shakers. All Hand Painted and Trimmed in Cobalt

These pieces were made in Japan and are unmarked, dating them prior to 1890, the year the McKinley Tariff Act mandated that all imported goods be marked with country of origin.

The small salt and peppers are a set and measure 2 1/2" high. Ringed with dark pink roses interspersed with tiny orange posies. Swirled cobalt glaze surrounds the necks. Corks are included and both have an extra inside. No damage.

The single shaker measures 3 1/4" tall and had traces of pepper in the holes indicating that it was probably part of a set. Pink and magenta asters decorate this on one side with the throat being lovely cobalt blue glaze. No damage.

The three legged vase has roses all around, three being ringed with an unusual shade of green. The cobalt of the legs and neck is embellished with shiny gold. There is a rather ugly chip on the outside edge which has been colored in by a previous owner. Please see the close-up of this, it measures about 1/4" long. The vase measures 3 1/2" tall by 3 1/2" at its widest diameter.

Although I have described this pieces as being damage-free, with the exception of the vase chip, they exhibit the manufacturing flaws often found on these old 'Nippon' pieces in the form of small firing dots, dings and extra clay.
