Pre-Christmas Doll Sale this Month! $25 Off & Free Shipping on all Ginny Dolls.
We have seen this pair before but never in these appealing colors or with the incised details on the bodices and the girl's cap. The base color is creamy white and the clothing is defined by accents of soft pink and mild green. A shiny glaze covers all.
This collectible pair was made by Hedi Schoop, a renown California ceramicist whose history is fascinating. She and her husband, a famous musician, escaped Nazi Germany and fled to California. She opened her shop in the early 40's and worked until it was destroyed by a fire in the mid 50's. She managed to salvage some of her molds and others used them for a time. All her original pieces are hand signed, as these are, with "Hedi Schoop, Hollywood, California".
They are large, measuring 9" and 11" with the girl's skirt being about 7" across at the bottom. They are in excellent condition with the crazing that is virtually always found on these figurines and most all of the California pottery from this era, for that matter. There is an old chip on the boy's base. This can be seen in the bottom view and is not visible when statue is upright. They are made of high quality clay and are heavier than expected.
Wonder what became of the other Dottie and Bill....
