Lovely Celluloid Glove Box with Intriguing Lithograph of Children

We love finding these romantic old dresser boxes from the turn of the century, especially when they are in an acceptable condition. They were inexpensively made of fragile materials and many have not fared well.

This nice example was intended to hold gloves and is made of light wood with a cardboard bottom. It is covered with paper in a charming pink, white and green floral pattern. The background is gold. A strip of clear celluloid covers the interesting photographic print of two children enjoying the music of an old man playing a concertina. We like to imagine that he is their grandfather.

It measures 12" long by 3 3/4" wide by 3" tall and is in fairly nice condition. The photographs show the worst areas of paper chipping and loss. The embossed celluloid is in excellent condition and has protected the underlying print from damage.

The interior is lined with an interesting embossed blue material which has some soiling and what appears to be a burn spot. Also an area where something has been spilled and hardened. The small brass hinges and clasp are in nice, functional condition.
