The interesting wood frame is inset with a band of gilded florals and scrolls which appears to be some sort of stencil. the frame has tight miter joints and no damage although it is in 'vintage' condition with wear to the gilding and paint loss on the outside edges. Please ask for more photos of these areas. The back is covered with a piece of cardboard and a paper dust cover that is very brittle and torn. The emblem on the center top reads: "Winter's Art Store, Cleveland, Ohio". The graphics on this appear to be later than the painting and it was probably re-framed by this company. There are traces of at least one more layer of backing paper on the frame.
This is a nice size with a site view of 17 1/2" by 19 1/2" and overall size of 20 1/2" by 22 1/2".
This painting came to us in need of restoration. There were several areas of dry, loose paint and it had already lost some small chips. We have had this restored and sealed with varnish to prevent further paint loss. There is an area on the top, slightly left of center, where the canvas was stretched or bumped. This is best illustrated in the 5th picture, taken in full sun. The painting was difficult to photograph. The sun and camera flash both make this seem brighter than it is in ambient light..it is really quite dark. The photo showing it with the other paintings is the truest representation.
