This interesting painting was done on the smooth side of a 11" by 15 1/2" piece of Masonite and beautifully matted and framed with an overall size of 20 1/2" by 25".

The scene is a busy street or piazza filled with people going about their daily businesses; shopping, laundry and probably much gossip. The courtyard is flanked by tenement houses and the style of the architecture and the costumes indicate that this is a equatorial country, possibly Spain. The clear aqua sky and golden glow of the buildings almost radiate heat.

The painting is in nice condition with no paint chips or cracking. It has apparently been coated with a sealer of some type and there is a small area in the top right corner where this is missing (see close-up). The painting has a matte finish that is a result of this varnish. Vertical strokes on the surface are apparent when tipped to the light but are not obtrusive. The wide beige linen mat and gilded, molded wood frame are a nice compliment to the painting and are in very nice condition with tight miter joints, no mars or paint chipping and no losses on the deeply molded scrollwork. This is a four part assembly; the Masonite is mounted in a frame that shows as the thin gold border and the mat is also a separate piece.
