Pre-Christmas Doll Sale this Month! $25 Off & Free Shipping on all Ginny Dolls.
This reminds us of a scene from the far North, perhaps Iceland or maybe Alaska. A tiny fishing village nestles at water's edge and the brightly painted roof tops are in stark contrast to the barren tundra. A close looks shows several figures and signs of daily life.
Painted in a rather naive, Impressionistic style, the paint is smooth except for certain areas (the brown building in the foreground, the orange roof of the central house) which have an almost sandy texture. It has been covered with a coat of varnish. In excellent condition with no paint chips or cracking. The primary colors are bright and cheerful and are best illustrated in the closer photographs.
The frame is also excellent with an interior wood 'mat' and gilding on the molded wood. The interior is a neutral color; tan or gray. The miter joint in the lower left has a space but is tight. There is also some missing decorative molding in this area. Most of the brown dust cover has torn away from the back and the remaining piece shows a brown water mark which does not affect the painting or frame in any way.
This painting is an unusual size; rather long and narrow and just right for that troublesome wall or would work nicely in a grouping.
