The Charges depicts a very unusual subject .
The scene features a French Bridgett rescuing a surviving shipmate from a shipwrecked boat . You can see the sinking boat in the far off distance on the right of the plate. There are 4 other ships in the distance as well . The colors of the sky are magnificent with pale pink , blues and smokey gray clouds. The painting has such wonderful detail and painted with expertise ! The plate is French in origin believed age to be mid 1800's . It is impressed on the back B96 with no pottery hallmark, which is consistent with most very early unmarked French porcelain, which is referred to as "Old Paris" porcelain, or it may also be very early unmarked Limoges porcelain of the mid-1800s.
The Charger is in wonderful condition with no chips or cracks
What a stunning work of art to add to your Handpainted Limoges , or China / Porcelain collection!
