A little about the comic -- From 1920 on Winnie ( Perry's adopted Sister )- paved the way for all the comic strips about working women that followed.
The comic strip was created by Martin Branner, a former Vaudeville star who decided to go into cartooning after his World War I stint in the military. Branner spent the rest of his career with Winnie Winkle.
Winnie went on to take care of her adopted kid brother, Perry, married, was widowed while pregnant with twins, became a fashion designer to support her family and became one of the best loved and most widely read comic characters of all time.
