This hauntingly beautiful Zuni necklace is an intriguing item to behold. It has three Kachina (we believe them to be) likeness strung together with a sterling silver chain. Each Kachina is done as an inlay using red coral, turquoise, onyx and mother of pearl to form the image.
This wonderful necklace has a center image that is about 2 inches long by 1.5 inches wide. This is connected, by links, to the two smaller images above it. These smaller images are about 1.25 inches long by 1.0 inches wide. The total weight is 1.5 ounces.
On the back of the center Kachina in the cursive written name "Robert Cachini Sr." and beneath that "Zuni". We have been unable to find out anything on a Robert but there are several other Cachini's that make Zuni jewelry.
Kachinas are a personification of the gods of nature (e.g. clouds, sky, storms, trees, etc.). They can assist humans if a proper request is used.
The Zuni are one of the tribes that make up the Pueblo nation in the Southwest. They are storied to have originated from a tribe that lived in the same area over 1,000 years prior to the arrival of Columbus. This tribe, the Anasazi, was an integrated society that encompassed vast acreage, possessed riches and had many distinct cultures and civilizations.
