This quality portrait miniature is signed M. Stieler and is hand painted on a thin ivory wafer. This is a victorian copy of a famous portrait. The lady is "Marchesa Marianna Florenzi: 1802 - 1870 Was the daughter of Count Bacinetti of Ravenna and married the marquis Ettore Florenzi. She was a great friend of Ludwig I, King of Bavaria who visited her many times. Highly educated and a philosophy scholar, she was thought to be the ideal female scholar of her time and considered to be one of the most beautiful and cultured women of the 19th century." The ebonized frame measures 5 3/4" tall and 4 1/2" wide. There is some wear and scratches to the frame. There is a small defect in the glass near her chin - this in in the glass not on the painting itself. This listing is for one of a pair of ladies that I purchased years ago at an estate sale in Campbell. If buyer purchases both which are being sold separately, I will give a discount as I hate to separate them.
