Exquisite Antique Silver Plate Bride's Basket & Cased Bowl

I have had some beautiful Bride's Baskets, but this is a very special priceless antique silver plated Bride's Basket with original Glass Bowl. The basket is ornately designed by Wilcox Silver Plate Co which dates it to the late 1800's. It stands 12 1/2" high and is 11 1/2" at it's widest. The base is on four feet, 6" across and the opening for the bowl is 4".

The bowl is 9 3/4" across. It is white on the exterior and the inside is cased with cranberry glass on the fluted ruffle and lighter pink toward the bottom of the dish. The inside of the bowl is hand painted with dark red, dark green, a little blue and white and a lavish amount of gold trimming. It is a design of branches with leaves and seed pods with one small bird. The outer edge of the bowl has a silver crest.

I purchased it from a large estate sale of a prominent family that still had everything they came to this country with, even the trunks and clothing. Each generation living in the house just added to the collection, not throwing out anything. There were many wonderful treasures! This one had at least 100 years of tarnish on it. I wanted to know what was under the black so I did give it a good cleaning and was rewarded to find the Wilcox name on the inside, along with the number 7641 and quadruple plate. It is not super shiny, as it could use another good rub down but at least it is not black. It brought out the beautiful detail of the basket.

It is a good solid, sturdy set, with no wear to the silver plate and the glass bowl is in mint condition without so much as a nick or chip. As I said before it is an exquisite, beautiful treasure, ready for a new home. It is one of the finest I've had to offer (and I've had some beauties!). I would go so far as to say it is one of a kind!
