China, Jewelry, Figurines and Fancy Collectibles for you!
This excellent vintage dish is listed under Opalescent Novelties in my reference book. It is called Jewel and Fan and was made in blue opalescent glass by the Jefferson Glass Company, circa 1903. This was Jefferson's #125 pattern, made in a 3 part mold.
I have examined it carefully and can find no defects, chips, or cracks. A rare estate find, in perfect condition. It measures 8" across at the widest area, 3" high and sits on a 2 1/2" base. I hope that my pictures do it justice! It is a beautiful dish.
Novelty dishes have all to often been referred to as "candy dishes", when in fact not one piece was named candy dish in the Jefferson Catalogue. This one would have been called Scalloped Dish. No matter what you call your individual pieces today, they were originally used by housewives for whatever purpose she saw fit!
