Taken from a highly elaborate dessert service, this SUMPTUOUS PORCELAIN CAKE STAND and CAKE PLATE are the output of the RIDGWAY FACTORY, one of the most leading porcelain factories in STAFFORDSHIRE c.1830's. Typical of Ridgway wares, these two examples are decorated in the Rococo Revival style with formal, well executed botanical painting. The use of excessive gilding and elaborate shapes, combined with the pattern number on the base confirms that this set was made at the Ridgway factory. Few Staffordshire factories marked their wares on a regular basis; pattern numbers vary in style but often appear as fractions on the base of their pieces as so in this case. Certain pattern-number sequences are unique and allow the identification of unmarked tableware.

These timeless beauties have been lovingly preserved, they are in EXCELLENT CONDITION, without chips, hairline cracks or restorations. Very little-I mean very very little typical crazing (under the glaze) around the backside dish of the cake stand where the stem joins. Aside from this, I will say they are MINT! Both pieces have a nice ring to them. The gilding is all intact and the blend of botanical colours against the flesh and white coloured ground is exquisite. The LARGE CAKE STAND MEASURES 10 3/8" in diameter x 6" tall and the PLATE MEASURES 9¼" in diameter.
