Small Indulgences with Great Rewards ~ Jewelry, Fine Gifts, Antiques & Collectibles ~ Treat Yourself!
The larger brooch measures 1 3/8" wide by 1 3/32" tall and 9/16" deep at the center. Measurement do not include the delicate chain swag or the tassel, which is 5/8" tall.
The smaller brooch measures 13/16" wide by 5/8 " tall and 3/8" deep at the center. Measurement does not include the 7/16" tassel. The chain connecting both sides is 1 3/4" long.
The small brooch has been repaired or was made from an earring, perhaps. The solder used is not gold and is a bit obvious on the top when one looks at the pin from the top, but not as noticeable when worn. This might have been done because the soldering with gold solder requires a high temperature and would damage the delicate seed pearls. Also, chatelaines in this style were not popular until the 1930s.
In beautiful condition, both sides tested with acid and also electronically. Stone electronically tested and inspected. The Etruscan Revival Period dates from 1860s to 1880s. A similar style brooch and earrings is found on page 196 of C. Jeannene Bell's "Victorian Jewelry" book.
