We have been in business since 1997 offering a wide variety of antiquarian and collectible books and paper items.
First we have a crisp, as new set of 20 older postcards of French sites and monuments -- unused and all printed on a high quality linen paper with each photo tinted green. These would be exceptionally lovely framed. They come in their own green and gold folder.
The second group of postcards are colorful with each artistic depiction showing a different form of French dress. These, too, are unused, crisp and clean, and slightly oversized, again in their own folder. There are 25 in all, the full set.
Next comes a travel brochure entitled "What to See In Eastern France." It's printed in English, has 24 pages, and is photo illustrated throughout. The back is stamped Steamship Agency, New Haven Conn.
The perfect accompaniment is "Paris for Englishmen and Americans" which was published for traveling during the war. There is no date, so we're not sure if its WWI or II, but you may find a clue in the contents which describe places to stay, how to get around, things to see, banking and money and even a walking tour route. There's also a wonderful large fold-out map at the center bound-in. Covers are creased, probably from use, but overall this is a very nice pocket guide.
Next comes a pretty thing -- an oversized booklet measuring 8-1/2"x10" with full page black and white photos throughout. It's entitled Chateaux of France and its text and photos describe the most outstanding examples.
Finally, we have a large book -- French Cathedral Windows published by Iris Books, Oxford in 1947. Yes, a date -- though this is clearly the newest item of the lot. There is, as you can see, sunning to the edges, but the book is tightly bound and clean as a whistle inside and out. It's very large -- 10"x14" and contains an essay on the windows of the 12th and 13th centuries followed by glorious full color, full page artistic representations in rich, glowing color.
All together, the perfect gift for the Francophile, or addition to your vintage travel collection.
