Woman's Home Companion Magazine; Stories by Edna Ferber and Kathleen Norris; Crowell Publishing, New York 1939

A cute New Year's baby graces the cover of a popular women's magazine of the day. In case you aren't familiar with it, this one is quite large measuring almost 14" tall. Lots of great period ads including some in full color -- Campbell's soup, Ivory soap, Chesterfield cigarettes, and Butterick patterns.

Lots of fun stuff to read including fashion, hair-dos, recipes, a cute house plan, and lots of fiction. Readers of the latter will be pleased to see Kathleen Norris with her story "Dearest Amanda" and Hope Hale's charming "Girl Friend's Boyfriend." The biggest name is this issue though belongs to Edna Ferber who appears with part IV of her autobiography "A Peculiar Treasure" which offers a fascinating look at her life from a 1914 trip to Europe to the beginning of her research on show boats for what would become her blockbuster book and the play, "Show Boat." The best news is that Part IV can be read as a stand alone, but will most likely will make you want to find the rest!

Magazine is clean and nice with just a few small edgtears and a discreet blue mailing label at lower front corner.
