Groetchen Zephyr 1937 Trade Stimulator

Here is a classic old three-reel trade stimulator from the late 1930’s. Made by Groetchen, the Zephyr has cigarette symbols on the reels. Insert a coin and push the lever, line up three of a kind to win. During the 30’s and 40’s counter games, smaller machines that didn't pay off in cash but looked like small slot machines right down to their reels became popular at check out counters and cigar stores all around America. The machine has a small viewing window at the lower right side that shows the last coin played. If you succeed scoring a win, the store proprietor could award the prize of one or more packs of cigarettes accordingly.

A gumball is also dispensed if desired for each coin played. The machine was originally painted red and it has been restored to its original wrinkle textured finish.
