This is a complete deck of vintage French playing cards. This deck has both tax indications on the Jack of Cubs and the Ace of Clubs.
The Ace of clubs in this deck is stamped with “Republique Francaise Decret du 12 Avril 1890”. Stamps for playing card taxes were used in France from 1890 to 1945. The Jack of Clubs in this deck also has a tax indication shield. The shield is labeled as “ Des Contrie Indir Administ 1853”. Before 1890, a tax indication for playing cards in France was shown on this shield.
So I’m not certain if this deck is from the year 1890 or sometime shortly afterwards.
The deck is in excellent condition.
Also included in this sale is the vintage solid wood playing card storage box pictured.
