SALE 6 Antique French postcards PIERROT courting series from 1902

$25 USD Offers ConsideredSALE 6 Antique French postcards PIERROT courting series from 1902

Postcards:Comic
Mailed from Belgium in 1902, these cards are a series of 6 telling the story of Pierrot finding his love Columbine and becoming a papa. Some people get distressed over the way the French in particular seem to have had the habit of writing all over the front of their postcards; however, as the back scan shows, only the address was allowed on the back. IF someone really wanted to send a message, there was no where to write except on the front! This sender had a bit of humor, too. Notice the ...
SALE RARE series (6) French postcards TODDLER playing grown up

$125 USD SaleSALE RARE series (6) French postcards TODDLER playing grown up

Postcards:Rare
My favorite card in this series is the little girl wearing the top hat and getting quite a surprise playing with the siphon bottle! This is a very rare series of French postcards. In more than five years of buying, selling and collecting French postcards, I've looked at literally tens of thousands of cards. I've come across this particular card twice! To find the entire series is a real coup indeed. These cards have been together for about a century or more -- and it would be a shame to separate ...
SALE RARE Antique Eiffel Tower Embossed postcard Paris Souvenir

$75 USD SaleSALE RARE Antique Eiffel Tower Embossed postcard Paris Souvenir

Postcards:Rare
I have NEVER seen another postcard like this one And, this card is in mint condition! The postmark is not complete, but the back is undivided, which dates this card to 1903 or earlier. I have a Notre Dame souvenir card in this style and it is dated 1899. The card is richly embossed.
SALE Artist Signed Donald McGill: Girl saying Prayers with Dog

$8 USD SaleSALE Artist Signed Donald McGill: Girl saying Prayers with Dog

Postcards:Artist Signed
The sender wrote "beaucoup" but didn't date the postcard. One thing the English and the French agree upon: postcards rule! Dual language postcards are quite common -- such as this humorous one by Brit Donald McGill. On the back, the mother wrote a lot but did not put a date. As I noted in a Ruby Lane blog submission, McGill's career took off in 1904 and he faced censor charges in 1954 at the age of 80. When he died in 1962, he had card designs made up for 1963. So, even if this was one of his ...
SALE Antique French GYPSY girl FORTUNE telling Card No. 1

$10 USD SaleSALE Antique French GYPSY girl FORTUNE telling Card No. 1

Postcards:Ethnic
This is one of three cards I have offered in this rare series. [Sorry, I'm keeping the fourth card to offer as a digital scan in my other online store.] Here the little fortune telling gypsy girl is explaining the bad news: 9 of spades "C'est ... la mort." Death! This is an unused postcard with an undivided back, which dates its printing to 1903 or earlier. No creases or tears; some surface soiling (a smudge at bottom left) and a light stain at bottom right.
SALE Antique French postcard 1905 PARROT Baroque couple Marquis

$12 USD SaleSALE Antique French postcard 1905 PARROT Baroque couple Marquis

Postcards:Animals
"Declaration Interrupted" is the title of the this French postcard with a 1905 postal date. The title doesn't make sense until you look at the far left corner and see the parrot on his stand! This card is as interesting on back as it is on front. The sender wrote in a cryptic code! At first look, you'd think this card was in near mint condition. However, while examining under a jeweler's loupe I finally noticed the light crease at the top right quadrant. It runs right along a shadow in the wall!
SALE Antique French GYPSY fortune telling Card Reader No. 3 Travel

$10 USD SaleSALE Antique French GYPSY fortune telling Card Reader No. 3 Travel

Postcards:Real Photos
This is one of three cards I have offered in this rare series. This is an unused postcard with an undivided back, which dates its printing to 1903 or earlier. No creases or tears; some surface soiling (a smudge at bottom left).
SALE Vintage French postcard: QUEEN throne Reutlinger MONTAGE

$18 USD SaleSALE Vintage French postcard: QUEEN throne Reutlinger MONTAGE

Postcards:Glamour Ladies
Reutlinger -- a legacy of two brothers and a son -- was one of the most popular photography studios at the turn of the century in Paris, very famous for portraits of the stars, actresses and celebrities of the day. Here is an actress in a royal role and what makes this postcard stand out is the special montage effect created by the additional colored design overlay! This postcard is unused. It has a divided back. I feel confident in dating this card to about 1904-1918. Overall, for its age, it ...
SALE LOURDES 1947 souvenir French set of 14 postcards Stations of the Cross

$40 USD Offers ConsideredSALE LOURDES 1947 souvenir French set of 14 postcards Stations of the Cross

Postcards:Religious
Here is an extra special souvenir from Lourdes, France. Actually printed in Belgium, each postcard depicts a scene from one of the 14 stations of the cross. On the back of each card is a prayer in French, of course, and note that these cards commemorated a pilgrimage to Lourdes in 1947. All of the cards are unused, still wrapped in their original packaging. Slightest of wear on the corner tips and edges as can be expected of cards that are more than 50 years old. Three cards show soiling on the ...
SALE 1908 EASTER French postcard gold embossed eggs BABY

$16 USD Offers ConsideredSALE 1908 EASTER French postcard gold embossed eggs BABY

Postcards:Easter
This is a stunning French postcard, postmarked 1908. Great design, richly embossed and "gold" leaf highlights. The impression from the cancellation mark on the back can be seen on the front, but nothing detracts from the charm of this antique card. I'm assuming the recipient trimmed the corner tips before putting it in his album.
SALE 1906 Antique French BATHING BEAUTY postcard Art Nouveau

$14 USD SaleSALE 1906 Antique French BATHING BEAUTY postcard Art Nouveau

Postcards:Rare
Although this card is postally marked as 1906, it has an undivided back, which dates its actual printing to 1903 or earlier. This is a cute montage of a real photo and Art Nouveau illustrations, all of which has been color tinted by hand. The card is in overall mint condition -- just use the zoom feature and look at the closeup scan. I'm sure you'll agree. Any signs of age not worth mentioning. This card is one of four in a series entitled "Sur La Plage" -- At the Beach. This is a rare design!
SALE 1909 Mastroianni HORSE Sculpture New Year French postcard

$12 USD Offers ConsideredSALE 1909 Mastroianni HORSE Sculpture New Year French postcard

This French postcard is a photo of a bas relief sculpture by a famous Italian named Mastroianni. His style is distinctive and this is a fine example of his work. The horses look like they are jumping off the card! This card is in overall mint condition.
SALE 1948 French postcard FIRST COVER journey of the stamp Stagecoach

$9 USD SaleSALE 1948 French postcard FIRST COVER journey of the stamp Stagecoach

Postcards:Transportation
I just recently discovered first covers and I love the natural collage look of the stamp, the postal mark and the illustration that compliments the stamp design. This one celebrates the "journey of the stamp" or in other words, the history of postal service. Notice that the card says "Journee National du Timbre 1948" but the actual postmark is March 26, 1949. The recipient's name has been blotted out on the back -- fortunately, this did not bleed through to the front. The top left corner is ...
SALE 1918 French WWI Soldier postcard J'e T'aime I love you Hearts

$12 USD Offers ConsideredSALE 1918 French WWI Soldier postcard J'e T'aime I love you Hearts

SALE (5) Antique French postcards MOON STARS Angels

$30 USD Offers ConsideredSALE (5) Antique French postcards MOON STARS Angels

Postcards:Lots
Here is another melange of French postcards with celestial themes. These cards span from the turn of the century to the Art Deco era! The oldest card is the cute illustration of the 'clown' angels using a peacock feather to tickle the nose of the man in the moon! It has an undivided back and is postmarked Dec. 30,1903, mailed from Helvetia (Switzerland). Foxing marks and the postal cancellation has bled through the front. Gold leaf accents and an adorable illustration. The card of the Edwardian ...
SALE (3) French SCULPTURE postcards Romantic Roman scenes

$15 USD SaleSALE (3) French SCULPTURE postcards Romantic Roman scenes

Postcards:Art
The style of Italian sculptor Mastroianna is very distinctive. Here are three of his postcards that have been printed in color. Two are unused and one is hand-dated 1910 on the back. The height of his artistic career was while living in Paris, making one bas relief scene after the other --- photographing them for postcards -- and then destroying the clay scene and starting all over! His work output was incredible! He portrayed scores and scores of scenes--- the Bible, Napoleon's life and these-- ...

$25 USD Offers ConsideredSALE (4) Four FRENCH antique Collage postcards Christmas Friendship

Postcards:Christmas
Here's a fun collection of four collage postcards. Inside the letters are photos used in other postcards. Bonne Annee is French for Happy New Year. Noel is French for ....:) A name card: Germaine --- and Amitie means friendship. As the back of the scans show, dates on these cards are 1906 and 1907. Please use the zoom feature and examine the cards up close. No creases. Any signs of age show up on the scans. Nothing so detrimental to take away from the cards' charms.
SALE (3) Antique SOUVENIR Good Luck Multiple BABIES in boats French postcards

$25 USD SaleSALE (3) Antique SOUVENIR Good Luck Multiple BABIES in boats French postcards

Postcards:Children
Multiple baby postcards were very popular at the turn of the century. Little babies and toddlers were depicted in all sorts of settings -- from idyllic scenes like you see here to prison and hell! Similar in design to the souvenir postcard (1906 postmark), here is the Bonheur card (1905?) which means good luck or happiness in French. The multiple babies in the boats is so sweet' postmark 1904. It's always fun to see the variety of responses, expressions on the babies' faces. These cards show ...
SALE Vintage French PERFUME labels (12) Green

$15 USD SaleSALE Vintage French PERFUME labels (12) Green

Collectibles:Vanity Items:French Perfume Labels
The accent is on green in this batch of original French perfume labels. Most of my labels are from the 1930s and '40s, but I think the huge green striped label could even be as old as the 1920s. It's such a strong Art Deco geometric design (it measures 4-1/2 by just over 3-1/4 inches!) The Violette Mauve label with the ferns and violets in the gold leaf vase is just beautiful. The scan doesn't do it justice. The stand, the bowl, the line border, and highlights within the ferns and violets are ...
SALE French PERFUME labels (7) Blues

$10 USD SaleSALE French PERFUME labels (7) Blues

Collectibles:Paper:French Perfume Labels
These are original vintage French perfume labels dating to the 1930s and '40s. Some of the labels are in mint condition and some show a little sign of wear. The unifying color is blue! For size perspective, the Eau de Cologne with the blue/gray and pink flowers measures about 3-1/4 by 4-1/4 inches. My favorite label is the smaller version of the woman's profile with the red flower. Notice that on this label the hair is a silver highlight (like gold leaf but in silver). Its larger version has the ...
SALE French PERFUME labels: Reds (11)

$10 USD SaleSALE French PERFUME labels: Reds (11)

Collectibles:Paper
The accent is on red in this batch of original French perfume labels, circa 1930s and '40s. For size perspective, the Imperial Russe measures 2-3/4 by 3-3/4 inches. My favorite is the Eau de Cologne Rodyls of Paris with the big red rose! It measures just over 2-1/4 inches by 2 inches. Overall, these labels are in mint condition. Some might should a tad of wear, a creased corner tip or such. In this batch, the Eau de Cologne with the flame stitch red leaf-like design has a ripple in it. But ...
SALE French PERFUME labels (2) Fleurs d'Oranger Louis Plouviez Paris

$5 USD SaleSALE French PERFUME labels (2) Fleurs d'Oranger Louis Plouviez Paris

Collectibles:Vanity Items:French Perfume Labels
This is one of my favorite little sets of perfume labels. The design is just so delicate with the pastel green and gold leaf. Most of my perfume labels are from the '30s and '40s but I believe these labels are older because the design is quite Art Nouveau. The larger label measures almost 1-3/4 by 2-1/4 inches. These labels are in overall mint condition. Fine print in the white border says Louis Plouviez, Paris.
SALE Antique 1905 French postcard BUTTERFLY child

$10 USD SaleSALE Antique 1905 French postcard BUTTERFLY child

There is a partial bleed through of the postal cancellation in the top right corner. Otherwise, this sweet illustration of a butterfly child is indeed in near mint condition. The "flowers" spell "Je pense a vous," which means, I think of you. This card, which is lightly embossed, was mailed in 1905 to Boom, Belgium.
SALE Antique French postcard Edwardian couple BOOK of LOVE No. 1

$10 USD SaleSALE Antique French postcard Edwardian couple BOOK of LOVE No. 1

Postcards:Rare
This is one of five postcards in this series entitled "A Page of Love." The postmark is only really clear on one of the cards and it is from 1906, all mailed to the same woman in the Loire Valley. Each pose is different and the Edwardian woman's dress has been color tinted differently, too. No creases! These cards are in very fine antique condition. Any signs of age not worth mentioning. I think this card represents the last last in the series. Roughly translated, the "last" page says: "The ...
SALE Vintage French VALENTINE postcard collage Cupid ribbon

$10 USD SaleSALE Vintage French VALENTINE postcard collage Cupid ribbon

Postcards:Valentine's Day
How's this for a romantic Valentine? The cupid diecut with the huge heart and the ribbon border are attached at to the light blue background with a couple of tabs -- so it is designed to be pulled out for a fun 3-D effect. Unused and undated -- I'm not sure but I think this card is from the late 1950s.

SALE 1904 French postcard: Polichinelle puppet, marionette

$10 USD SaleSALE 1904 French postcard: Polichinelle puppet, marionette

Postcards:Comic
This is too fun. I love the message with the 3 exclamation points! This card is undivided and was mailed to "Maman" (momma) in 1904, April fool's day. A great photo of that cantankerous puppet imported from Italy!ha! The card is in overall very good condition for its age. No creases or tears, but the light background shows album corner fade marks and there are the ink smudges. Please note: on my screen the album marks at the corner look very dark and prominent -- they aren't. It' a distortion of ...
