Here's a fun collection of four collage postcards. Inside the letters are photos used in other postcards. Bonne Annee is French for Happy New Year. Noel is French for ....:) A name card: Germaine --- and Amitie means friendship. As the back of the scans show, dates on these cards are 1906 and 1907. Please use the zoom feature and examine the cards up close. No creases. Any signs of age show up on the scans. Nothing so detrimental to take away from the cards' charms.

Here is an extra special souvenir from Lourdes, France. Actually printed in Belgium, each postcard depicts a scene from one of the 14 stations of the cross. On the back of each card is a prayer in French, of course, and note that these cards commemorated a pilgrimage to Lourdes in 1947. The sender wrote "beaucoup" but didn't date the postcard. One thing the English and the French agree upon: postcards rule! Dual language postcards are quite common -- such as this humorous one by Brit Donald McGill. On the back, the mother wrote a lot but did not put a date. As I noted in a Ruby Lane blog submission, McGill's career took off in 1904 and he faced censor charges in 1954 at the age of 80. When he died in 1962, he had card designs made up for 1963. Death! This is an unused postcard with an undivided back, which dates its printing to 1903 or earlier. No creases or tears; some surface soiling (a smudge at bottom left) and a light stain at bottom right.

"Declaration Interrupted" is the title of the this French postcard with a 1905 postal date. The title doesn't make sense until you look at the far left corner and see the parrot on his stand! This card is as interesting on back as it is on front. The sender wrote in a cryptic code! At first look, you'd think this card was in near mint condition. However, while examining under a jeweler's loupe I finally noticed the light crease at the top right quadrant. It runs right along a shadow in the wall!

This is a stunning French postcard, postmarked 1908. Great design, richly embossed and "gold" leaf highlights. The impression from the cancellation mark on the back can be seen on the front, but nothing detracts from the charm of this antique card. I'm assuming the recipient trimmed the corner tips before putting it in his album.

Although this card is postally marked as 1906, it has an undivided back, which dates its actual printing to 1903 or earlier. This is a cute montage of a real photo and Art Nouveau illustrations, all of which has been color tinted by hand. The card is in overall mint condition -- just use the zoom feature and look at the closeup scan. I'm sure you'll agree. Any signs of age not worth mentioning. This card is one of four in a series entitled "Sur La Plage" -- At the Beach. This is a rare design!

This is an exceptional trio of antique postcards. Postmarked 1903, 1906 and 1907, any signs of wear seem inconsequential for their age. The card of the lady in the chair "Caprice" is almost mint. These two postcards are a bit of a mystery to me. I can't tell what is framing this woman. It looks to be either some type of flower (a thistle?) or Peacock feathers! The back of the cards say "Carte Postale" but there's not the typical address lines and stamp delineation. Unused, I'm not sure of the date except to say definitely pre-1914 and with no lines at all on the back, I lean toward dating them to 1903 or earlier.
