Exquisite intricate etched detailing abounds from the top of the crest or corona on the head to the end of the tail on each bird. The bird wearing his crown has his chest and neck feathers done with gray enameling. His wings are done either in a very deep blue or black with accents of yellow, red and white enamel. The detail in the plumage is extraordinary. His crown is red.
There are 2 small indentations on one side... these were done at the time they were made. I can say this because under magnification, you can see that there is enameling on top of the indents.
The bright shiny sections on the tails and wings that appears to be polished brass is not. I looked under with my loupe and discovered that the shine is actually old gold enamel.
As can be expected, some enameling has worn off. But most remains. These birds are old.
The other petcock has no dark coloring in his wings. He is missing his corona. I do not repair my items, but if you look at the picture, you can see that it can be repaired, as it is a very neat break. You can see this only if you are looking closely down from above. As you can see in the pictures, they look amazing displayed missing corona and all. I think the pictures show everything quite well. For their age, they are in fantastic condition.
These figurines are distinctly different from one another. Look closely at the wings of each bird and you can easily see this.
