This fabulous set is a garniture de toilette in the Epines (thorn) pattern by R. Lalique. The set is shown in the R. Lalique reference book by F. Marcilhac - page 343. This set came in gray, brown, blue and violet. This set was, I believe, possibly a custom ordered set. I cannot find it with this particular treatment in any references.

The set is clear and frosted glass with the thorn pattern on all pieces. It is done with gray patina with the edges being done with gold colored metal and black enamel. I believe the gold is gold plating but I am not certain. It is very fine workmanship on these pieces. There is a larger bottle - 4.5" in height - that has the enameled and gold metal over cap. The inside has a cover with a single hole so I presume this was for the man's cologne fragrance - to be shaken out of the single holed top. One of the other bottles measures 4" in height and it also has the enameled and gold over cap with the gold tone metal shaker top.The last bottle is 3.8" in height and it has the same lift off cap with the same shaker type cover. This cover has a bit of wear - not terrible but more than the others. This bottle has the R. Lalique, France signature in cursive on the bottom. There is an ash tray, again with the matching cover and an inner gold tone metal tray that lifts out so the cigarette ashes can be discarded. It measures 4" in diameter. There is a long, narrow tray that measures 9.3" long x 1.3" deep. The final smaller tray or dish measures 4.6" in total length x 1.2" in height. This set is, I believe, C. '28 - '32. The pieces are in excellent condition with no damage. There are no chips, cracks, dings. There is a bit of wear to some of the gold plating and enamel on the edges but I would rate the set a 9.9 in condition. It is really stupendous and one which will not be found readily.
