This antique English earthenware cup and saucer has floral decoration along with bold deep green bands on both cup and saucer. This would be a charming addition to a display of country ceramics. Circa 1840, the hand painting is deftly executed, except for where the painter smudged the cup’s green band with a thumb. No maker’s mark, but “100” painted mark on bottom (probably a tally mark since this ware was produced on a piece-work basis, and the workers wanted to make sure their output was recorded). Size: Cup top diameter is 3.625”, 2.25” high; saucer diameter approximately 5.75” Condition: Excellent. No chips, cracks or repairs. Note that I try to be conservative about condition descriptions, carefully noting any flaws. Of course, with antique items, there will be some signs of usage, and/or manufacturing defects. But overall, my customers have always been pleasantly surprised upon receiving their items, and of course, I would expect a return if I happen to miss anything.
