Printed mark on bottom, Ironstone Pearl, J. Wedgwood (probably for John Wedge Wood). A number of ceramics manufacturers used the Wedgwood name both with and without authorization. Shown in Wetherbee (White Ironstone, A Collectors’ Guide), along with an explanation of the “Wedgwood” potters.
A beautiful piece of ironstone in an uncommon pattern.
Size: Approximately 11.5” at highest point, bottom diameter approximately 7”
Condition: No chips, cracks or repairs. Tiny pit on bottom band (probably during manufacture), and small area of light browning on base rim directly under spout. Minor manufacturing flaws, primarily pits (one on side above upper band) and stray clay bits.
Note that I try to be conservative about condition descriptions, carefully noting any flaws. Of course, with antique items, there will be some signs of usage, and/or manufacturing defects. But overall, my customers have always been pleasantly surprised upon receiving their items, and of course, I would expect a return if I happen to miss anything.
