The lady / woman in the portrait looks to depict Marie Antoinette of France. Hers was a popular choice for these later Victorian pieces. Hand painted, the image is nicely detailed from the feather plumes in her hat to the delicate pink flower at her collar. Her fashionably stripped blue dress matches the ribbon. Background seems to have her positioned near a tree in a meadow. Warm, coppery rose, rolled / filled gold frame. Glass top. Secure Tube hinge and c clasp function very well. Measures 1 1/2 inches x 1 1/8 inches. Ca., late 1800's and is in very good condition.
