Vintage Lion and Lioness Pair of Wall Hangings

This Lion and Lioness are dramatic. The Lion roars majestically at an intruder while the lioness leaps from over rocks next to a stream. The figures, background and frame are molded or “cut-out” from one piece of a very dense, heavy material. This material seems to be a resin, rather than a dense wood or metal. The work was then coated with a layer of metallic paint. The lion was done in a golden-bronze and the lioness in silver with the background trees fading to the golden-bronze. The frames of both are the same golden bronze. The black backing is a piece of nylon cloth that is a softer black felt behind the carvings and green on the reverse. The cloth is glued to the frame. Each piece is 21 3/4 inches long by 8 7/8 inches wide and around 1 inch deep.

Condition: Both wall hangings are in extremely nice conditions with no chips, nicks, cracks or repairs. The paint has started to come off on the high points of the mold and where the paint is eroding it is leaving a rusty brown that blends nicely with the metallic.
