This large plate features three fantastic stylized prancing and rearing horses. The horses have been hand painted in shades of golden brown. Their flowing manes are braided and arched. The circus harness is delicately draped on the horses’ backs. The plate is 13 ¾ inches in diameter.
The piece is signed and dated on the base “By Gertrude Dimmer 1956”. It is also signed on the front along the tail of one of the horses. Gertrude M. Dimmer (1915-1998), was a self-taught ceramic artist and teacher in the Metro Detroit area. Her ceramic work reflects her artistic ability in free style drawing and the perfectionism of her hand painting.
Condition: The plate is in very good condition with strong color and no cracks or repairs. It does have two small edge chips, one ¼” x 1/8” and the other 1/8” x 1/8” on rim. The top of the plate has fine crazing throughout.
