Victorian Celluloid Photo Album with Gypsy Girl

This Victorian celluloid photo album features a barefoot Gypsy girl standing leaning against a rock by the shore and gazing out over the ocean. She wears peasant clothing, hoop earrings and a bracelet. The instrument in her arms may be an early version of a lute, cittern, or zither. (If someone knows, I’d appreciate an email.) The cover is a very pale yellow, except for the ocean side of the front where it fades to a dusky blue.

There are 13 pages that hold a single photo on each side and 2 pages that hold 4 photos on each side. There are no photos in this album. The paper insert on the first photo page states “Guaranteed Gold Edges”.

Condition: Overall this album is in extremely nice condition. The celluloid cover, front and rear, have no significant flaws, some wear to the high points, a little scratching on the back cover. There are bumps at the top and bottom of the spine. There is a small 1/8 in. crack starting at the top of the front cover. The first 3 pages have separated from the binding. One page sticks out and has been bumped. There are some tears around the photo inserts on a few pages.

The brasses are in nice condition and the gold edge does not look worn. There is a name written lightly in pencil on the inside of the back page—it is very hard to read through the design. Please note that I have not cleaned this album.
