This is vintage, cast iron, 3 legged, iron trivet. It has the words,"Enterprise Mfg. Co., Phila. U.S.A. are embossed on the top on this SAD IRON trivet used in the 1800's to hold those old hot ironing pressing irons.

Ironing used to be a heavy and unpleasant task years ago.(it isn't much fun now!) The old irons were HOT and heavy and these trivits were a place to set these old sad irons safely and within reach of the Ironer. This is a great vintage item made by The Enterprise Manufacturing Co. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania was in business from 1876 - 1888. Their Specialty was Hardware manufacturer specializing in coffee grinders they also turned out a series of still banks commemorating the U.S. Centennial Exposition held in that city ( Independence Hall Globe Bank).
