Early 19th Century English Brass Hanging Taper Box

This early English brass hanging box with lifting lid is even nicer than those illustrated in Schiffer, p. 121. Too small for candles, it was probably used for matches or short tapers. It dates to 1820, and measures 5 ¼” high (to original hanging loop) x 6 ½” wide x 3 ¼” deep. We rarely come across good early hanging brass candle or match boxes, and when we do it’s so exciting. Lovely condition.
